Family and Community Engagement

Wilbur E. Lucas Elementary understands parental involvement is a crucial component to the success of a child's educational achievement. Parents are the child's most important teacher. Research has proven that children are more successful learners when their parents are actively involved in their learning, both at home and at school. To support parents as partners, we encourage families to be involved in their child's educational process. Wilbur E. Lucas Elementary offers an open-door policy, allowing parents to visit and participate inn our programs, fostering a sense of openness and inclusion.
Parents are encouraged to be a part of their child's education. One way of doing that, is to attend parent workshops. These classes are designed to help parents with issues ranging from child rearing to the education of their child. To request a specific class topic, contact our Parental Involvement Coordinator, Mrs. Laura Reyna. Other events such as Family Nights provide opportunities for the parents and students to work together as they complete current educational activities. Teachers are also available at these events to assist or answer questions.
Being a volunteer is another way of being involved in a child's education. We encourage family and community involvement. All volunteers are required to fill complete a background check at the district's Personnel Office.
Wilbur E. Lucas Elementary is a Title I school and we are required to involve parents in the annual review of the campus Parent Involvement Policy and School Parent Compact as well as provide input on how Title I Parent Involvement Funds are spent.

Wilbur E. Lucas Elementary School Title I, Part A Program will build school and family capacities to ensure effective involvement of families and to support a partnership to improve student academic achievement in the following areas: 

  1. Provide opportunities to inform families of academic content standards and student achievement standards established by the State and district
  2. Provide opportunities to inform families of the process of working with educators to monitor student progress. 
  3. Provide opportunities for training and materials to help families work with their children through the collaboration of district/campus staff.  
  4. Provide professional development for campus staff regarding how to reach out to, communicate with, and work with families as equal partners; the value and contributions of families; and how to implement and coordinate family programs and build ties between families and schools, by offering campus-specific sessions. 
  5. Provide all Title I communication to families in a user and language-friendly format to ensure that information related to the educational system is clear and uniform.
  6. Provide necessary coordination, technical assistance, and other support to schools in planning and implementing effective family involvement activities. 
  7. Improve student achievement and school performance by conducting monthly staff development sessions during the school year.

Wilbur E. Lucas Elementary School establecerá relaciones entre la escuela y la familia para asegurar la participación efectiva de las familias y para apoyar una asociación para mejorar el rendimiento académico de los estudiantes en las siguientes áreas:

 

  1. Proveer oportunidades para informar a las familias sobre los estándares de contenido académico y los estándares de rendimiento estudiantil establecidos por el estado y el distrito.
  2. Proveer oportunidades para informar a las familias sobre el proceso de trabajo con educadores para monitorear el progreso del estudiante.
  3. Proveer oportunidades de capacitación y materiales para ayudar a las familias a trabajar con sus hijos a través de la colaboración del personal del distrito / y escuela.
  4. Proveer desarrollo profesional para el personal de la escuela con respecto a como involucarse, comunicarse y trabajar conjuntamente con nuestras familias; el valor y las contribuciones de las familias; y cómo implementar y coordinar programas familiares y construir lazos entre las familias y las escuelas, ofreciendo sesiones específicas de la escuela.
  5. Proveer todas las comunicaciones de Título I a las familias en un formato amigable para el usuario y en el lenguaje adecuado para garantizar que la información relacionada con el sistema educativo sea clara y uniforme.
  6. Proveer la coordinación necesaria, asistencia técnica y otro tipo de apoyo a las escuelas para planificar e implementar actividades efectivas de participación familiar.
  7. Mejorar el rendimiento estudiantil y el rendimiento escolar mediante sesiones mensuales de desarrollo de personal durante el año escolar.
