Lucas Elementary Raises Awareness for Yaqui Animal Rescue

Students Raise Awareness for Yaqui Animal Rescue

Wilbur E. Lucas Elementary Student Council has taken on a community service project this year that is helping our four-legged friends who find themselves at the Yaqui Animal Rescue Center. Called the Lucas Student Council Pet Rescue, it has the students working to raise awareness of the needs of the animal shelter that include: pet food, pet adoptions, and the care of the animals at the shelter.

A major part of the projects involves a pet food and pet toy drive that is currently underway. The Student Council is encouraging anyone who would like to help, to drop off donated pet food, toys and blankets with the front office at Wilbur E. Lucas Elementary. Donated items must be in before May 18th.

The Student Council is scheduling time to visit the animal center and take the donated food items. They are also working on a video to be used during school announcements about the need for donations and animal adoptions. They are also asking Lucas Elementary students to sign on a paw print pledging, “to help all animals— large and small”.
